Mounted points are useful machining tools and are widely used for various finishes on a number or materials. These Pferd products are created in a variety of shapes and materials with different grit sizes for different results. A mounted point is essentially comprised of an abrasive material that has been bonded together to form a shape.
There are three main shape categories of mounted points created by Pferd. These categories are A shape, B shape and W shape. The shapes in each category differ, as not all the shapes in the A shape category are necessarily conical in shape with a tapered end. There are some flat cylindrical shapes in the A shape category, similarly in the B shape and W shape categories.
The abrasives used to coat the Pferd mounted points are either resin bonded or vitrified bonded. Mounted points that are vitrified bonded are either made from aluminium oxide and ceramic sintered oxide and are generally blue in colour and those with a pink colour are made from dark red and white aluminium oxide and silicon carbide mounted points have a grey colour. The Pferd products that are resin bonded are made from aluminium oxide and are various brown colours.
The mounted points from Pferd are further classified according to their hardness using the letters of the alphabet. The materials used to create the products each have their own classification as well. Letters in the beginning of the alphabet such as Grade J, are very soft, progressing all the way to the last few letters of the alphabet, which means that the mounted point will be very hard. One should always check that the peripheral speed at which any of these of these Pferd products operate are in accordance with their grade and the recommendation of the manufacturer for best results.
